On May 7th and 8th 2011, I set up my cookbook information and sales table at the Community Hall in support of the Denman Island Home and Garden Tour. I was donating a percentage of sales that weekend to the Denman Island Conservancy. This gave me the opportunity to meet and chat with the wonderful people who braved the cool, windy weekend to visit our idyllic Island.

I have had a busy and exciting summer attending Saturday Farmer's Markets both on Denman Island and at Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island, BC.

Denman Islands' 'Old School Saturday Market' is open 9:30am -1pm and runs through till October 8th. It is located in the field beside the Old School and Recycling Center.

The 'Qualicum Beach Farmers Market' is open 8:30am - noon and also runs through to October 8th. It is located at Memorial Avenue and Veterans Way, Qualicum Beach, Vancouver Island, BC.

I will be attending the markets on alternate weekends. Come shop for the freshest local food around, stop by and check out my table or just to say hello. I look forward to meeting new friends and seeing familiar faces!

Denman Island's 19th Home and Garden Tour

Every two years Denman Island opens its garden gates for a rare close-up look at the passion Denman residents pour into their properties! Mark your calendar for this Tour, long considered one of BC's top horticultural events, running May 7th and 8th 2011.
All proceeds go to the Denman Conservancy Association, a Registered Charity which, with the support of this tour has protected over 700 acres of Denman Island.
After a morning of exploring homes and gardens head to the heart of Denman's Village for a freshly prepared meal at the Community Hall. Look for me on the porch, I will be selling my seasonal cookbook 'For the Love of Food' with a donation of every sale to the Denman Conservancy Association.

Final Winter Harvest

Signs of Spring are showing up everywhere! The frogs are singing, the hummingbirds are back and it is past due to harvest the last winter root crops.
The weather has warmed some and the 'Bolero' carrots have gone a bit 'hairy' but nothing can compare to their flavor! This was my first attempt at 'Purple Sprouting Broccoli'... beautiful, but it seems to take up lots of garden space for a minimal harvest. The parsnips as usual are large and sweet.... now it's time to start seeding the brassicas and herbs for the garden.

Denman Island Studio Tour

'Culinary Art' is making its debut on this summer's Arts Denman Studio Tour! Saturday July 31st and Sunday August 1st, 2010 on Denman Island, 25 studios will open their doors to the public. Admission is free, studios will be open 10am-4pm. The Art Centre will be open at 9:30am with studio information and tour maps.

Cookbook Launch and Demo

I am excited to announce the launch of my new cookbook 'FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD'. A seasonal collection of 66 food columns previously published in Denman Island's publication 'The Flagstone'. Offering everything from soup to nuts, my book has over 350 recipes to choose from. The user friendly format has a high quality smyth sewn, lay flat binding with a Category Index and an Alphabetical Index.

Tomato Harvest

I could not resist snapping a photo before picking the ripe tomatoes from this incredible San Marzano plant, (they are long plum-type tomatoes).
I have always had success with this variety but cannot recall ever having such a heavy yield on one plant!
I am off to make 'Roasted Tomato Sauce' for the freezer... for my recipe see page 198 of my new cookbook "For the Love of Food".
